Rita Jahanforuz is an Israeli singer and this beautiful story was inspired by those she heard as a child growing up in Tehran, Iran. The vivid colours used in the illustrations, by Vali Mintzi, truly complement this compelling tale.
It is a story that teaches of the human need for kindness, care and patience, and the law of sowing and reaping in a simple way.
My favourite line: “Sometimes when people are sad they don’t know how to ask for what they really want.”
This is a very well-written story which can be read and understood easily by children aged 6 and up. Younger children can also benefit from the lesson taught though the language may require simplifying and the story summarised so that they can easily grasp the concept.
