The phrase “smoke and mirrors” is used to describe the notion that things are not as they are perceived be. It is intended to make you believe something that isn’t really true.
Earlier this month I went to see Spider-Man: Far From Home, and those of you who have seen the movie will know exactly what I’m talking about when I say smoke and mirrors…
***SPOILER ALERT*** (kinda!) What you’ll find in the movie is that it’s all an illusion. I won’t elaborate on that. That’s all you need to know.
This isn’t the first superhero movie that has made me think of biblical ideas. As I sat there in the cinema, scriptures from the bible pricked my conscious:
Wolves in sheep’s clothing – Matthew 7:15
There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death – Proverbs 14:12
The truth is, not everything is as it seems – despite how realistic and even tangible a thing might me. Somethings can only truly be uncovered by God who sees all things. And that’s my prayer: that you will be have a revelation of what truly is and you will not be duped into believing what is superficially presented to you.
We walk by faith, not by sight – 2 Corinthians 5:7
P.s. Spider-Man is a good film and I would recommend seeing it. Great visuals and action coupled with just the right amount of humour. Believe me – this is coming from someone who isn’t a hardcore Marvel fan!
