This book is not one that I typically would have picked up. I recently joined a book club and this was our book last month and I enjoyed this book for a couple of reasons which I’ll share in a moment. This book is about a Adam Kay, the author, journey to becoming a doctor, his many adventures in the career, and his eventual exodus out of healthcare. Kay compiles diary entries over an eight-year period to create this book and it really is an informative – and a comical – insight into our NHS and the reality of being…

I just got through this book and it was a good read. I give it 3.5/5 stars. First of all, I want to commend Gladwell’s writing style which is poignant considering that the genre is non-fiction, more specifically, a self-help book. The book is full of  research to illustrate each point and it is engaging because it reads like a story. This is the third title by Gladwell that I’ve read and they have all been pleasant reads full of insightful and relevant research. Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi. Where do I begin?! What a story! One that I throughly enjoyed 😀 Fantasy is not my go-to genre when it comes to stories. The only books I’ve read that come under that the title ‘fantasy’ are the books that make up the Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling – which is also brilliant. So it could be many things, either I should give fantasy more attention or it doesn’t take much to impress me, or they truly are fantastic stories. I’d like to believe the latter. And the fact that…

I started my new job last week and because I’m doing longer hours I’ve opted to actually take my lunch break. I’ve also promised myself that I’ll take food in too so I can save, which means I’m getting creative in the kitchen again. Now, I’m all for quick, easy, all-in-one meals and I usually experiment with some sort of carb as a base and veggies and this is what I came with. Apart from cooking the pearl barley, which takes an hour, this is a 10-min meal. This makes 3 good-sized portions. Ingredients: Pearl barley A handful of kale…

What is a friend? Someone who’s there only when it’s convenient for them? One that’s there for what they can get? No, that’s selfish. That can’t be friendship, there ain’t no love there. And trust me, you ain’t doing yourself any favours either.   A poem… Today I visited my friend. I rose early and went to work all day but I was visiting my friend. It was pouring with the type of rain in India in a summer monsoon but I was visiting my friend. I hadn’t eaten all day and my stomach was notifying me with rumbles and…
